Wheat Kings, WHL Release 2018-19 Regular Season Schedule

Brandon, Manitoba - The Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with the Western Hockey League have unveiled their 2018-19 regular season schedule.

The schedule will begin with a home and home series with the defending Eastern Division pennant winning Moose Jaw Warriors, beginning with the hockey club's Home Opener on Friday, September 21st. The two teams will then face off the following night in Moose Jaw.

Of Brandon's thirty-four (34) regular season home games, twenty-six (26) will be played on weekends and holidays.

The Wheat Kings will play thirteen Friday night home games, nine on Saturdays, two more on Sundays, one on Monday, February 18th Louis Riel Family Day and another on Thursday, December 27th as Brandon kicks off its post Christmas schedule against the visiting Regina Pats.

Rounding out the home schedule will be four Tuesdays and four Wednesday night games.

The Wheat Kings will bring the curtain down on the 2017-18 regular season with a home an home series with the Regina Pats on Friday and Saturday, March 15th and 16th.

Brandon will play two of its Eastern Division rivals (Regina and Moose Jaw) a total of eight games this year (four at home and four away). The Wheat Kings will face Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Swift Current (three at home and three away) while playing all Central Division clubs twice at Westoba Place and twice away from home.

Western Manitoba hockey fans will have the opportunity to see the WHL's five American based clubs this coming season.

Meanwhile the Wheat Kings will travel to B.C. for its annual west coast road trip in October, beginning with back to back games against Central Division clubs (Lethbridge and Kootenay) on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 23rd and 24th. Brandon will then play the Royals in Victoria on Saturday, October 27th, the Wheat Kings will be in Vancouver on Sunday, October 28th, they'll take on the Cougars in Prince George on Tuesday, October 30th before closing out the 7-game excursion with games in Kamloops and Kelowna on November 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Some other observations of this year's schedule include the following;

- Brandon plays two home games in September, five in October, seven in November, five in December, six in January, seven in February and only two during the final month of the regular season in March as Westoba Place will host the 2019 Brier.

- Wheat Kings will close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a home and home series with the Saskatoon Blades on Friday and Saturday, December 14th and 15th.

- The Wheat Kings' Sportsman's Dinner will be held on Thursday, February 7th. The annual Scholarship Foundation event will be followed by games on Friday, February 8th against the visiting Swift Current Broncos.

- Brandon will host two games over the Christmas break - Thursday, December 27th against Regina and Sunday, December 30th vs Moose Jaw.

- The Wheat Kings will feature a six game home stand in November and a 5-gamer in October.

- The club's Annual Remembrance Day game will be played at 2:30pm on Sunday, November 11th against visiting Tri City Americans.

The Wheat Kings, who finished fourth in the WHL's Eastern Division this past season with a record of 40-27-3-2, will open up training camp in late August and will play four pre-season games, including two on home ice (September 7th and 14th).
