Krebs Earns Invite to Hockey Canada 's U18 Camp

Cranbrook, B.C. - Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday that Kootenay ICE 2001-born forward Peyton Krebs is one of 44 players invited to its U18 selection camp.

The camp, which will feature Canada's top under-18 prospects, will be held at the end of July in Calgary, Alberta.

Fourteen players (six forwards, six defencemen and two goaltenders) from the Western Hockey League received an invite to the camp. In total, 44 players (26 forwards, 14 defencemen and four goaltenders) developing in the CHL and CJHL earned an invite.

Krebs is coming off his rookie season with the ICE where he netted 17 goals and added 37 assists for 54 points in 67 games. The Okotoks, Alberta native led all WHL rookies in points during the 2017-18 campaign. Krebs also recorded one goal and six points with Team Canada Red at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge last November.

The ICE selected Krebs first overall in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

The newly rebranded tournament, now known as the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, will be held in Edmonton and Red Deer from August 6-11. Team Canada will play all of its games out of Rogers Place in Edmonton, the home of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.

The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is one of the only true, best-on-best competitions for this age group.

Canada won last year's edition of the event in Breclav, Czech Republic, defeating the host team 4-1.

Canada has won gold 21 times in 27 years of summer under-18 competition.
