November 1, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, selected six players in the 2014 NBA D-League draft, marking the team's inaugural draft. The six players selected will round out the sixteen-man training camp roster.
With the team's first selection in franchise history, the Westchester Knicks took guard Joseph Bertrand (6'6", 200) from the University of Illinois as the tenth pick in the second round. The Knicks did not have a first round pick due to a trade with the Reno Bighorns for Darnell Jackson. In his senior year, Bertrand led the Illini in field goal percentage at 48.1 percent and ranked third in scoring with an average of 8.5 points per game.
With their second pick, Westchester chose guard Todd Mayo (6'3", 195) out of Marquette. Mayo was the leading scorer for the Golden Eagles last season, averaging 11.3 points per game. Mayo's brother, OJ Mayo, currently plays in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Westchester Knicks went local for their fourth pick (100th overall) Sherrod Wright (6'4", 202). Wright, a former Mount Vernon High School standout, will return to his Westchester roots as a member of Westchester Knicks training camp. In Wright's senior year in 2009, he was been named Section 1's "Mr. Basketball" and became the 11th player in program history to score 1,000 points. Wright most recently played for George Mason University where he averaged 12.1 points on .467 shooting and became the 13th player in program history to surpass 1,500 career points.
