
Stampede Selects Eight Players in NBA D-League Draft

BOISE, Idaho (November 1, 2014) - The Idaho Stampede selected eight players in today's 2014 NBA Development League Draft, including Tre Bussey with the seventh overall pick.
Bussey (6-3, 170, Georgia Southern) played four years at Georgia Southern (2010-14), averaging 16.2 points on .457 percent shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 34.9 minutes during his senior season. The 22-year-old guard owns career averages of 9.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists for the Eagles. A native of Atlanta, Ga., Bussey played high school basketball at Lithia Springs High School in Lithia Springs, Ga.
In subsequent picks, the Stampede selected Quinton Doggett (6-8, 220, Southern University), Ryan Sypkens (6-4, 195, UC Davis), Kodi Augustus (6-8, 220, Mississippi State), Nick Covington (6-2, 200, Oklahoma City), Joel Wright (6-7, 225, Texas State), Shane Gibson (6-2, 180, Sacred Heart) and Tyrrel Tate (6-5, 217, Fayetteville State).
Doggett played three years at Southern University (2009-2012), averaging 12.3 points on .485 percent shooting, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 32.4 minutes during his senior season. The Richmond, Va. native has played internationally for Naestved in Denmark and most recently Galitos Tley in Portugal.
Sypkens spent five years at UC Davis (2009-2014) averaging 10.1 points in that span. A native of Elk Grove, Ca., Sypkens played high school basketball at Franklin High School and led his team to the Sacramento-Joaquin Section title game his senior year.
Augustus (6-8, 224, Mississippi State) started the 2013-14 season with Union Olimpija (Slovenia), before signing with LF Basket (Sweden) where he averaged 11.7 points and 4.8 rebounds in 20 games. The 26-year-old forward played four years at Mississippi State (2007-11), averaging 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists during his senior season. A native of Baton Rouge, La., Augustus played high school at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine.
Covington comes to Idaho with NBA D-League experience with stints with the Iowa Energy (2011-12), Sioux Falls Skyforce (2011-12) and Erie BayHawks (2012-14). Covington has averaged 8.6 points and 2.8 assists in his NBA D-League career.The Weber State product played for the Utah Jazz's entry in the 2014 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 6.0 points on 10.0 minutes in three appearances.
Wright played two seasons at Texas State (2012-14), averaging 16.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in his collegiate career. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native played high school basketball at Thomas Jefferson High School and led his team in points and rebounds.
Gibson played five years at Sacred Heart (2008-13), averaging more than 20 points during his last two seasons. The three-time All-Northeast Conference selection ended his career as the university's Division I history. Gibson played with the Sacramento Kings during the 2013 NBA Summer League.
Tate played four seasons at Fayetteville State (2010-14), averaging 18.7 points and 4.8 rebounds during his senior season. The Raleigh, N.C., native was named to the 2013-14 All-CIAA Team while recording three 30-point performances.
The players will report to training camp under new head coach Dean Cooper on November 3.
