Austin Spurs Select Erik Murphy in the First Round of the 2014 NBA

AUSTIN, TX November 1, 2014 - The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, selected Erik Murphy with the 3rd pick in the first round of the 2014 NBA D-League Draft. Murphy, a 6'10", 240 lb. forward, played collegiate ball at Florida where he averaged 12.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists during his senior campaign. Most recently, Murphy was picked 49th overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 2013 NBA Draft and averaged 6.8 points throughout the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup for the Finnish national team.

"The team is pleased with the selections of the draft, and we are looking forward to a competitive training camp," said Austin Spurs Head Coach Ken McDonald.

In the third round, the Austin Spurs selected forward Keith Wright with the 44th pick (6'8", 240, Harvard). In subsequent picks, the Austin Spurs selected guard Donte Poole (6'3", 185, Murray State), forward Corey Raji (6'6", 220, Boston College), guard Joe Mitchell (6'1", 210, Friends), guard Mfon Udofia (6'2", 195, Georgia Tech), and forward Cory Dixon (6'7", 205, New Orleans).

Additionally, the Austin Spurs announced the names of nine returning, affiliate and local tryout invitees also headed to training camp prior to the start of the 2014-2015 NBA D-League season. The list includes San Antonio Spurs affiliate players Bryce Cotton and Josh Davis, returning players JaMychal Green, Greg Gantt, and Jonathan Simmons, and local tryout participants Russell Robinson, Devondrick Walker, and Gordon Ball. Jarell Eddie was acquired earlier today as a result of a trade. Training camp is scheduled to begin Monday, November 3.
