Drive Select Robert Covington with First Overall Pick in NBA D-League Draft

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN- NOVEMBER 1, 2014- The Grand Rapids DRIVE selected Robert Covington, a 6'9", 215-pound forward from Tennessee State, with the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft. Covington is the reigning NBA Development League Rookie of the Year.

"This is a monumental day in the history of the Grand Rapids DRIVE," said Steve Jbara, President of the Grand Rapids DRIVE. "All the build up and talking is done and it's now time to play ball. Otis and his staff will do a phenomenal job developing this roster and the city of Grand Rapids is in for a good show!"

Holding the fifth pick in the first round, the Grand Rapids DRIVE then selected Ben Hansbrough, a 6'3", 203-pound guard from Notre Dame, and an NBA veteran with the Indiana Pacers during the 2012-13 season.

In the subsequent rounds, the Grand Rapids DRIVE selected forward Omondi Amoke from Cal State Fullerton, center Shaun Pruitt from Illinois, forward Kammeon Holsey from Georgia Tech, guard Dominic Waters from Portland State University, forward Renaldo Woolridge from the University of Southern California, guard Kelsey Barlow from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and guard Moses Sundufu from St. Mary's University. With the team's final selection, the DRIVE chose Jerrell Sanders, a forward from Ferris State University and a Grand Rapids native who participated in open tryouts this season in Auburn Hills and Grand Rapids.

Below is a list of the 10 players the Grand Rapids DRIVE selected in the 2014 NBA Development League Draft.

The draft completes the DRIVE's training camp roster. In addition to the ten selections above, the DRIVE will open training camp with two affiliate players, four returning players, and one open tryout invitee.

Hasheem Thabeet, a 7'3", 263 pound center, who was the second overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, and Josh Bostic, a 6'5" 230 pound forward from the University of Findlay join the roster as designated Detroit Pistons affiliate players. Thabeet and Bostic both participated in training camp with the Pistons earlier this fall.

The four returning players that appear on the Grand Rapids DRIVE training camp roster are Lorenzo Brown, a 6'5", 189-pound shooting guard from North Carolina State, Bruce Massey, a 6'3", 195-pound guard from Middle Tennessee State, Adonis Thomas, a 6'7", 240-pound forward from Memphis and LD Williams, a 6'4" 215-pound guard from Wake Forest.

Brandon Fields, a 6'4", a190-pound guard from Nevada, joins the Grand Rapids DRIVE training camp roster as a designated open tryout invitee.

Training camp for the Grand Rapids DRIVE begins November 3, 2014.
