Bighorns Become Western Conference Champions with Win over Idaho

RENO, NV - The Reno Bighorns (31-16) defeated the Idaho Stampede (18-30) 116-113 Saturday night in overtime at the Reno Events Center. With the victory over the Stampede, the Bighorns clinched the Pacific Division title and became the number one overall seed in the Western Conference for the first time in franchise history.

Erick Green recorded 30 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the Bighorns. David Stockton logged a double-double with 23 points, three rebounds and 10 assists. Sacramento Kings assignment player, Eric Moreland, would record a double-double with 19 points and 23 rebounds.

JJ O'Brien led the Stampede with 32 points, eight rebounds and five assits. Phil Pressey totaled 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as Treveon Graham secured a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds.

The Stampede took control of the game with an 11-6 lead over the Bighorns midway through the first quarter. Eric Moreland led the Bighorns in the quarter with seven points and six rebounds. The Bighorns would end the first trailing the Stampede 28-19

The Bighorns would chip away at the Stampede, opening the second quarter on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 30-30 with 8:24 remaining in the first half. The Stampede responded with an 8-0 run to retake control of the game. The Bighorns would close the deficit to six points at the two minute mark in the second. The Bighorns would to go into the locker room at the half trailing the Stampede 53-46.

The Bighorns would go on a 6-0 run to start the second half to make it a 53-52 game in the first minute of play. The Bighorns would relinquish the lead before going on an 8-2 run, to take a 74-73 lead with 2:23 remaining in the third. The Bighorns won the frame 29-22. The teams were knotted-up at 75 going into the final quarter.

Both teams stayed close notching six points each in the first two minutes making it an 81-81 game at the 9:00 mark. The Stampede led the Bighorns by six with 5:52 left in play. The Bighorns chipped away at the Stampede's lead coming within three points giving the Stampede a 107-104 lead. With 11.2 remaining in regulation Green sank a three to tie the game at 107.

During the first overtime period was a tightly contested battle that saw three lead changed and three ties. With 2:03 remaining in play, Stockton would drive to the basket for a layup. Pressey would respond with a jumper with 1:50 remaining. Green would score a jump shot to tie the game at 111 before O'Brien would make two-points with .48 left in play. Green would make a reverse layup with .34 left on the clock to tie the game at 113. On the final possession, Green would score a triple with 3.9 left in play to secure a 116-113 victory over the Idaho Stampede to become the Western Conference Champions..

The Bighorns next travel to Santa Cruz to face the Warriors at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 30.
