
Weber, Kubitza Lead M-Braves in 5-1 Victory

PEARL, MS -- Ryan Weber tossed eight innings in a spot start for the Mississippi Braves while Kyle Kubitza and Seth Loman led the Braves at the plate en route to a 5-1 victory over the Huntsville Stars Wednesday evening at Trustmark Park. The win also secured another series victory for the Braves.
The Independence Day Celebration and series finale is set for Thursday at 7:00 PM.
Mississippi (9-5, 48-35) scored five runs on nine hits while Huntsville (7-7, 53-31) plated one run on just four hits. Weber (3-2) tossed eight frames, holding the Stars to one earned run on three hits and walk to pick up the win. John Cornely worked the final inning of the night.
Kubitza went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. He drove in three runs and scored once. Loman added two doubles, a walk and two runs scored.
The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the second when Loman doubled to right and scored on Kubitza's double to right field.
Nick Ramirez and Taylor Green reached on back-to-back two-out singles to start the Stars' fourth. Josh Prince then delivered a RBI-single to right field, plating Ramirez and tying the game at 1-1.
Mississippi responded to take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Loman walked and Matt Kennelly singled. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance before Kubitza delivered a two-run triple to center field, making it 3-1. Daniel Castro then singled to drive home Kubitza. Weber reached on a base hit and Jose Peraza grounded into a force out to move Castro to third. Kyle Wren followed with a single to plate Castro.
Brent Suter (7-6) worked 4.1 innings for the Stars, giving up five earned runs on eight hits in the loss. He walked three and struck out two.
Thursday night is the M-Braves annual Independence Day Celebration at Trustmark Park. The M-Braves send right-hander Mitch Atkins (2-0, 3.86) to the hill for the series finale against Stars righty Andy Moye (4-0, 2.80). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
