M-Braves Take Series Lead with 3-1 Victory

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Huntsville Stars 3-1 in game three of a five-game series at Trustmark Park Tuesday night. Cedric Hunter and Barrett Kleinknecht led the M-Braves offense with two-hit nights at the plate. The series continues Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (8-5, 47-35) scored three runs on eight hits while Huntsville (7-6, 53-30) plated one run on nine hits. Hunter and Kleinknecht each drove in a run. Williams Perez went 4.1 innings but was not eligible for the win. He gave up four hits and three walks while recording four strikeouts.

The M-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the first. Gustavo Nunez tripled and scored on a Cedric Hunter single to center field to put the Braves out front early.

Matt Kennelly led off the fourth with a double to left. Barrett Kleinknecht followed with a triple to center, making it a 2-0 game. Daniel Castro then delivered a sacrifice fly to left, extending the Double-A Braves advantage to 3-0.

Huntsville made it a 3-1 game in the seventh. Robinzon Diaz and Kentrail Davis reached on back-to-back singles. An error by the right fielder, Mycal Jones, allowed both runners to advance. Nick Shaw walked to load the bases before Nick Ramirez's sacrifice fly.

Ryne Harper (5-3) went 2.2 innings in relief to notch the victory. He gave up one earned run on three hits and a walk while fanning one batter. Chasen Shreve (S, 5) recorded the final five outs to notch the save. He walked one and struck out four batters. Drew Gagnon (5-3) gave up three earned runs on seven hits and took the loss. He struck out seven batters in six innings of work.

The M-Braves send right-hander Ryan Weber (2-2, 4.23) to the hill in game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. He'll counter Stars lefty Brent Suter (7-5, 3.53). First pitch is set for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
