Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts 10-5 in game three of their five game series in front of 1,772 fans at AT&T Park.
The Barons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Trayce Thompson led off the game with a solo home run, his team-leading ninth of the season. Rangel Ravelo followed later in the inning with a two-out double, his team-leading 22nd which extended his hitting streak to a Southern League-best 18 games. The streak is tied with Jerry Owens, Jim Driscoll andCarlos Lee for the 8th-longest streak in Barons history. Kevan Smith followed with an RBI base hit, scoring Ravelo from second base.
The lead grew to 5-1 in the fourth as Jeremy Farrell continued his recent hot-streak with a two-run double scoring Josh Richmond and Michael Earley. Farrell would score later in the inning on an RBI groundout by Chris Curley. He finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI and is hitting .400 (20-for-50) over his last 16 games.
The lead reached 8-1 in the sixth after an RBI single by Michael Earley and a sacrifice fly by Ravelo. Six of the Barons eight runs came against Lookoutsstarter Chris Reed (4-6, 3.23) who allowed eight hits over 4.1 IP.
Barons' starter Chris Beck (4-6, 3.24) exited prior to the sixth inning after allowing one run (0 earned) on four hits over 5.0 IP. Bryan Blough relieved Beck andallowed four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning including a two-run home run to Casio Grider, cutting the lead to 8-5.
Single runs in the eighth and ninth innings prevented the game from getting any closer as the Barons improved to 6-6 in the second half and 35-47 on the season.
The Barons will look to pick up a series victory tomorrow night as RHP Myles Jaye (0-7, 6.60) takes the hill against RHP Andres Santiago (2-4, 5.32). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 PM CDT.
