Kane County Cougars News Release

Peoria, IL - The Kane County Cougars got home runs from David Castillo and Javier Herrera and received six solid innings from right-handed starter Ryan Webb, posting a 4-3 win Wednesday night against the Peoria Chiefs at O'Brien Field.

Webb gave up an unearned run in the first inning and a solo homer in the third to Eric Patterson for a 2-0 deficit, but the Cougars got even in the fifth against Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada. Myron Leslie singled and Castillo blasted his first homer of the year to make it 2-2. Herrera's 10th round-tripper of the year came in lead-off fashion in the sixth to provide a 3-2 lead for Webb, who retired eight consecutive batters after the Patterson homer. The right-hander then walked Patterson in the bottom of the sixth, and the runner stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly for a 3-3 game.

Both starters left after six innings. Webb gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits, walked two and fanned six. Mike Jones relieved Estrada in the seventh, gave up a single to Castillo and sent him to second on a wild pitch. Cliff Pennington singled to put runners at first and third, and an error with two outs allowed Castillo to score the go-ahead tally. Trent Peterson worked two perfect relief innings, and Dan Fyvie notched his first save to help Webb (5-10) beat Peoria for the third time this season. Jones (0-2) suffered the tough-luck loss.

The two teams shift the series to Elfstrom Stadium for a game Thursday night at 6:30 CDT. The Cougars (20-20) have won three consecutive games and look to Mike Rogers (5-6, 5.00) to keep it going. Sean Gallagher (11-4, 2.28) will take the mound for the Chiefs (18-22). The contest begins a six-game homestand for Kane County.
