
Cougars beat Chiefs again, 4-3

Patterson homers in loss Peoria, IL - The Kane County Cougars broke a 3-3 tie with an unearned run in the top of the 7th inning and went on to a 4-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. The loss is the second in a row for the Chiefs, as they fall to 18-22 on the half, 53-57 overall.
Mike Jones entered the game in the 7th for Peoria and gave up a leadoff single to David Castillo, who moved to second later in the inning on a wild pitch. A single from Cliff Pennington moved Castillo to third with one out. Two batters later, a ground ball off the bat from Javier Herrera was misplayed by Chiefs shortstop Joe Simokaitis, allowing Castillo to score from third for the go-ahead run.
The Chiefs scored an unearned in the bottom of the 1st inning for a 1-0 lead. Sam Fuld started the inning with a double to center field and scored later in the inning with two outs after Eddie Kim allowed a routine ground ball to roll under his glove into right field. Peoria added a second run for a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning on Eric Patterson's 10th home run of the season onto the left field berm.
Kane County tied the game at 2-2 in the 5th inning on a two-run home run from Castillo off Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada. The Cougars took a 3-2 lead in the 6th on a leadoff home run Javier Herrera. That lead held up for a half-inning, as the Chiefs tied the game at 3-3 on a sacrifice fly from Jesse Schmidt to score Patterson. The Cougars took the lead for good in the 7th inning.
The Chiefs had one last chance in the 9th after Ryan Harvey started the inning with a single to center. Jesse Schmidt bunted him over to second, but Bo Flowers struck out and Simokaitis flew out to end the game.
Jesse Estrada pitched six innings for the Chiefs in taking his third no-decision of the year against Kane County. Jones took the loss for Peoria, allowing the go-ahead run in the 7th inning. Kane County starter Ryan Webb picked up the win, going six innings and allowing just three runs. Dan Fyvie recorded the save for the Cougars
Pepsi Player of the Game Eric Patterson (2B) - The Chiefs second baseman hit his 10th home run of the season in the 3rd inning to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead. He finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
Notes...
