Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Calgary, AB - The Moose Jaw Warriors kept their winning ways going on Saturday afternoon in Calgary.

The Warriors knocked off the Hitmen, 5-2, at the Scotiabank Saddledome to sweep their two-game Alberta road trip, extending their winning streak to five games.

"I thought we got better as the game went along," Warriors associate coach Scott King said. "It was one of those games where you had to create your own energy, follow the plan because when your legs are a little bit heavy, you just stick with it, find a way to win and that's what we did."

The Warriors have now also won 16 of their last 18 games, including an 11-1-0-0 record since the trade deadline. Moose Jaw is second in the Eastern Conference with 68 points.

"Just the belief that you can go into any building and whatever the circumstances are, you can play well and win," King said on the Warriors' road success this weekend.

Rilen Kovacevic and Brayden Schuurman had a goal and two points each, while Atley Calvert picked up two assists in the win.

Jagger Firkus also made Warriors' history in the victory, picking up an assist to extend his point streak to 24 games, breaking the modern era record set by Denton Mateychuk earlier this season.

Schuurman opened the scoring early, burying his 15th of the season just 2:24 into the game.

Calgary would tie the game at 8:17 when Brandon Gorzynski banked it past May to even the score at 1-1.

For the second straight night, the Warriors would end the first period with a goal in the final seconds as Cosmo Wilson's point shot found a lane to the back of the net with 1.1 seconds to go in the frame. It was his first of the season and gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead after one.

It was all Warriors after that as Moose Jaw tacked on three goals in the second period to move in front by four.

Kovacevic potted his 15th of the season with 6:03 left in the second.

Kalem Parker would follow that up with 1:55 to go in the frame, breaking into the zone and snapping home his sixth of the year.

Then with only 14 seconds left in the second, Brayden Yager wired home his 24th of the year.

The Hitmen's Maxim Muranov would score only 53 seconds into the third, but that was as close as Calgary would get.

"We did a good job of sticking with it, [Evan] May made some good saves and I thought as a group, we got everybody involved - four lines and six D all got some good minutes, so that's important as well," King said.

May turned away 35 shots to backstop the Warriors to the win, while Moose Jaw was outshot, 37-34, in the game.

Neither team scored on the power play with the Warriors finishing 0-for-2 and Calgary went 0-for-1.

The Warriors will now return home for two games next week, starting with Brandon coming to the Hangar on Thursday and then a rematch against Calgary on Saturday.
