Prince George Cougars News Release
PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars secured consecutive wins in their second home game with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Victoria Royals on Friday at the CN Centre.
Ephram McNutt, Zac Funk, and Ondrej Becher showcased stellar performances, each contributing multiple points, while rookie goaltender Josh Ravensbergen claimed his fifth straight win, making 19 saves out of 20 shots fired by Victoria.
Following a tightly contested first period featuring impressive goaltending on both ends, the scoring breakthrough arrived late when Hunter Laing capitalized on a power-play opportunity, notching his eighth goal of the season at 17:34. A mere 36 seconds later, Laing's linemate Matteo Danis added to the tally with his sixth goal, propelling the Cougars to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, the Cougars extended their advantage at 11:28, courtesy of Ephram McNutt's well-timed rush resulting in his second goal of the season. Despite the Royals narrowing the gap in the latter part of the period with Deegan Kinniburgh's fourth goal of the season at 18:34, Prince George maintained control, outshooting Victoria 13-5 and preserving a 3-1 lead.
Prince George sealed the victory in the final frame, highlighted by Ondrej Becher's power-play goal at 7:02, elevating the Cougars to a 4-1 lead, which ultimately stood as the final score at the CN Centre.
With this triumph, Prince George's record improves to 34-15-0-2, and they anticipate concluding the double-header tomorrow at 6:00 pm.
