High 5 for Mayes, Chiefs, as Spokane Dominates Rivals, 5-1

Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Chiefs welcomed the Americans back to the arena for the first of three home games versus Tri-City in the home stretch of the season. It was Coeur d'Alene Casino Bingo night with fans playing bingo throughout the night to win amazing prizes. Washington's Lottery was also on hand for people to purchase lottery tickets and enter to win $500!
The first period was a tightly contested affair with shots nearly even (13-12 in favor of Spokane) and both teams going 0/1 on the power play. The deadlock was broken with a literal buzzer beater as it was Nathan Mayes scoring his first career WHL goal as time expired in the period. After a lengthy review, the goal was called good!
Rasmus Ekström and Shea Van Olm provided the helpers as Mayes ripped it past the Americans' netminder.
In the second period Berkly Catton scored his first goal against Tri-City this season at the 3:29 mark. As usual it was Conner Roulette with an assist paired with Brayden Crampton.
This one also went to review before it was ultimately called a good goal. Spokane would score for a third time with Shea Van Olm finding the net for his 16th of the season.
No need for a review on this one as some fancy skate-work from Nathan Mayes resulted in a rebound that Van Olm put away, making it 3-0 Spokane.
Cash Koch managed to pull one back for Tri-City at the 11:41 mark of the second, with an assist from Andrew Fan.
The Chiefs would not end the period without a bang, scoring again with under a minute left thanks to a short-handed goal from, you guessed it, Berkly Catton. Conner Roulette once again with the assist.
Catton beats the defense down the ice, takes the feed in stride, and finishes skillfully around the goaltender. His second goal tonight marked his league-leading sixth short-handed goal of the season.
The Chiefs thoroughly dominated the second period outshooting the Americans 17-4.
Spokane's defense continued the strong play in the third, only allowing six shots in the final frame, snuffing out any chance of a comeback.
Roulette jumped on the scoreboard at 1:18 of the third, making it a 5-1 game.
Nathan Mayes continued his career night with another assist along with Berkly Catton.
Mayes finished the night with an emphatic score line (1G-2A, +5) while Catton scored twice and added a helper for three points and a +3.
The defense only allowed 22 shots in the game and went 3/3 on the penalty kill.
Up next Spokane will hit the road for a three-game road trip. At Everett on Saturday, Kelowna on Tuesday, and Tri-City next Friday. The Chiefs next home game is next Saturday, February 17th, for Numerica Hockey Helmet Bank Giveaway.
