Tigers Rally For Overtime Win Over Rebels

Medicine Hat, AB - Down three going to the third period. The Medicine Hat Tigers come all the way back to defeat the Red Deer Rebels 5-4 in overtime in front of over 3700 fans at Co-op Place Saturday night.

The Rebels would open the scoring thanks to a play off the face-off in the Tigers zone and Jhett Larson would score his 11th of the season at 8:42 to make it 1-0 Red Deer. Less than three minutes later the Tigers would tie the game at 1-1 as Tomas Mrsic would wire home his 14th of the campaign from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would benefit on Mrsic's 4th power play goal of the season at 11:40. On a late 4 on 4 sequence turning into a 4 on 3 power play for Red Deer, Kalen Lind would tap in his 13th of the year to regain the Rebel lead at 2-1 late in the first with just 20 seconds left in the period carrying that lead to the second period.

In the second period a tough 1:16 would increase the deficit from one to three as the Rebels score a pair, first off a tie-up in the offensive zone for Red Deer and Frantisek Formanek would backhand his 14th of the season at 4:32. Then at 5:48 the Rebels would pinball their fourth of the game from Carson Birnie for his 12th of the season to make it 4-1 Red Deer. The Tigers would outshoot the Rebels 10-6 in the 2nd but trail going to third.

Cue the comeback, as Hayden Harsanyi (Calgary, AB) would bang home his 11th of the season from Jack Kachkowski (St. Albert, AB) & Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) to make it a 4-2 deficit. Gavin McKenna would dangle his way through the Rebels defence at 8:57 to make 4-2 Red Deer, from Wiesblatt & Kachkowski. Then with the goalie pulled, just under two minutes to go at 1:57. Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would get away from everyone off the face-off in the Rebels zone and beat Chase Wutzke to tie the game at 4-4. Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) & Wiesblatt contribute on the game tying goal.

The Tigers would outshoot Red Deer 15-3 in the third heading to overtime. Both teams had chances but after a kick save from Tigers goaltender Zach Zahara (Rockyview, AB), Hunter St. Martin (Edmonton, AB) would pick up the pace from the Medicine Hat end and drop-off to Bogdans Hodass fand he'd go post and in to give the Tigers the victory and the season series win against Red Deer with his 4th of the season.

With the win, the Tigers move to 31-17-3-1 while dropping the Rebels to 27-17-2-6 and now four points clear of Red Deer for 1st in the Central Division.

The Tigers are off till Tuesday when they travel to Regina to face the Pats.
