Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings comeback falls short Saturday as the Warriors defeat the Wheat Kings 4-3.
It was a solid start for the Wheat Kings wearing their special fan designed jerseys as a part of Real Canadian Superstores #YourTeamYourJersey night. Forwards Dawson Pasternak and Nate Danielson would take off on a rush with Nate Danielson firing a shot from the left side circle which Warriors goaltender Connor Ungar would stop but would allow a juicy rebound for Dawson Pasternak to score his first as a Wheat King to make it 1-0.
The Warriors turned it on in the second period. First, Ryder Korzcak scored on the powerplay 5:30 into the period to tie it up at one. Then Ben Riche scored off a 2 on 1 with a wrist shot that fooled Carson Bjarnason to give the Warriors their first lead of the evening. Only 59 seconds later Eric Alarie would pounce on a loose puck in the crease scoring his 13th of the year to make it 3-1 Warriors. The 3 goals were scored within a 3:26 window. The Wheat Kings penalty trouble would continue with the Warriors capitalizing when Brayden Yager firing a right-side circle shot past Bjarnason to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead. Warriors forward Martin Rysavy would hit Wheat Kings blue liner Kayden Sadhra-Kang hard along the boards in the area which separates the bench and the glass which would get Rysavy ejected from the game and would put the Wheat Kings on a 5-minute powerplay to start the 3rd period.
The Wheat Kings would turn it up in the third period. Nolan Flamand would score his first as a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings to cut the lead in half 2:09 into the period. The Wheat Kings would then continue to pressure inside the Warriors zone throughout the period putting up 16 shots on goal. With the score 4-2 the Wheat Kings Calder Anderson would take a penalty in the final 4 minutes of the period but that didn't stop the Wheat Kings as Nolan Ritchie would spring Zakhar Polshakov loose on a shorthanded break scoring a heroic goal to make it 4-3. The Wheat Kings would full the goalie in the final 50 seconds of the 3rd but wouldn't be able to get the puck through Connor Ungar allowing the Warriors to escape with a 4-3 win.
