Pats End Homestand against Winterhawks

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats host the Portland Winterhawks for the first time since January 9, 2019, as the club wraps up their four game homestand on Saturday night inside the Brandt Centre.

The Pats have won two in a row as they are coming off a 7-4 victory over the Saskatoon Blades on Friday inside the Brandt Centre. Connor Bedard tallied five points (3G-2A) giving him 11 points (7G-4A) in two games since coming back from the World Juniors. Meanwhile, Stanislav Svozi returned from the World Juniors for his first game back, tying his career-high with four points (4A).

Alexander Suzdalev and Tanner Howe each tallied a pair of assists, while the Pats got goals from Borya Valis (1G-1A), Braxton Whitehead (SHG) and Steel Quiring for his first as a Pat'. Drew Sim earned his 16th win of the season with 21 saves on 25 shots. The final shots were 25-25. The Pats went 2-5 on the power play while the Blades went 2-3 on their power play.

On the other side, the Portland Winterhawks are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night. The game was tied at two in the third period, but Moose Jaw jumped ahead by one with under two minutes to play to grab the lead before finishing the contest with an empty netter.James Stefan and Jack O'Brien scored in the loss and Luca Cagnoni collected two assists. Jan Špunar got the start in net, allowing three goals in 31 shots. The final shots were 44-32 for Portland. The Winterhawks went 1-3 on the power play and 0-1 on their penalty kill.

The club wraps up their Eastern Division road trip today with the sixth game of it. Since starting their road trip on January 6 in Brandon, the Winterhawks have gone 2-3-0, with losses to Brandon (L, 3-2), Winnipeg (L, 6-3), and Moose Jaw (L, 4-2) and wins over Prince Albert (W, 5-3) and Saskatoon (W, 3-1). During their last five contests, the Winterhawks have been outscored 17-to-15.
