Spokane Chiefs News Release
Langley, B.C. - The Spokane Chiefs bounced back with a strong 4-2 win over the Vancouver Giants on the road Friday night, after falling 2-1 to them last weekend.
Ben Bonni got things started for the Chiefs as he scored his fourth of the season at 3:56 after stealing the puck away in the Giants' zone and poking it back into the net.
Vancouver answered with two goals of their own, both by Ty Thorpe, to close out the period and give them a 2-1 advantage heading into the first break.
Spokane tied things up just a minute into the middle frame after Chase Bertholet finally shoved in the puck after it bounced around a couple players in front of the net. The assists went to Carter Streek and Cade Hayes.
The Chiefs didn't stop there, as Italian-born rookie Tommaso De Luca picked up a long pass from Ty Cheveldayoff and carried the puck along the left side with Kooper Gizowski and Raegan Wiles keeping pace to his right. De Luca pushed it over to Wiles, who immediately returned it and De Luca chipped it into the top right corner to give the Chiefs a 3-2 lead at 4:54 in the third.
Bertholet added a short-handed goal with just over two minutes left in the game as he took the puck from a Giant and flew along the right wing, firing it into the twine from the right circle to cap the scoring at 4-2, Chiefs.
Spokane's special teams put forth an impressive effort in the contest, going 1-for-2 on the power play and a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The Giants outshot the Chiefs, though, 30-24. Related Links
