Warren Young Hired as Nailers Assistant Coach

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that former Pittsburgh Penguin Warren Young has been added to the Nailers coaching staff as an assistant. Young joins Nailers Head Coach John Brophy and Player/Assistant Coach Mark Major to round out the Nailers coaching staff.

"Warren has been helping us out since training camp and has been at all of our games," said Brophy. "He will now be more involved with the team and have a larger impact. We have struggled in certain aspects of our game in the first month of the season and I am happy to have someone like Warren help us get things on the right track. Warren is a former NHL player and is very knowledgeable when it comes to this sport, he will help out a great deal with our young team, both on and off the ice.

Young played 10 seasons of professional hockey, including parts of seven seasons in the NHL. He played for the Minnesota North Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings during his NHL career. Most of his time in the NHL was spent with the Penguins. Young's best NHL season was in 1984-85 with Pittsburgh when he had 40 goals and 32 assists for 72 points in 80 games. In his NHL career, Young played 236 games with 72 goals and 77 assists for 149 points.

The Nailers play two home games this weekend. On Saturday the Toledo Storm are in Wheeling at 7:30p.m. for Thunder Sticks night sponsored by WTRF – TV. On Sunday the Dayton Bombers are at the Wheeling Civic Center for a 6:00p.m. game with fans having a chance to skate with the Nailers players after the game.
