Toledo Walleye News Release

Walleye Notes

Three for three week: An offensive showcase Friday night at the Huntington Center that saw Toledo outlast Manchester 5-4 behind a three assist night from 18-year-old defenseman Vili Saarijarvi. Saturday night, the Walleye set a new season high for goals in a 7-3 win at Cincinnati. A dynamite finish Sunday as Tylor Spink set up Tyson Spink just 18 seconds into overtime as the Walleye downed Wheeling 2-1 to round out a perfect week.

Five for Rankin : Evan Rankin led the way last night with five goals scored in Cincinnati. It was the second time in his career that he has reached that mark as he also did it on the road in Charlotte on February 18, 2010 (7-0 Walleye win). The most goals scored in a single game in ECHL history is six reached by multiple players including Brad McCaughey of the Toledo Storm on November 6, 1991, vs. Columbus.

A new single season record : In a season full of attendance records, another fell over the weekend as Toledo has set a new single season attendance record breaking the old record of 231,847 set a season ago. With one game left at the Huntington Center during the regular season, the Walleye have had 243,369 fans.

Spink and Spink : The twin brothers from Colgate not only combined for the win Sunday evening but also all throughout the weekend. In five games with the Walleye, Tylor Spink has picked up two goals, six assists and is a plus 8. His brother Tyson has appeared in his first three games as a professional and has scored a pair of goals (game-winning goals on both Friday and Sunday) with two assists.

The Wings to finish : Only two games are left in the 2015-16 regular season and both are against Toledo's rival the Kalamazoo Wings. The first of the home at home is Friday night at the Huntington Center with the season finale coming Saturday in Kalamazoo. Toledo is 3-3-1 this season vs. Kalamazoo.

Let's pull a switch: On Friday night the Toledo Mud Hens will be wearing special Walleye themed jerseys at Fifth Third Field while the Walleye will be wearing Mud Hens inspired hockey jerseys! Each game-worn Walleye jersey will be paired up with a game-worn Mud Hens jersey and will be auctioned off together during a live auction following the conclusion of the Walleye game at the Huntington Center. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Toledo and the Seagate Food Bank.
