Kalamazoo's Martin Named CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Joel Martin 1) of the Kalamazoo Wings is the CCM ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 28-April 3. It is the eighth time in his career that he has received the weekly honor, setting a new ECHL?record.

The 33-year-old went 3-0-0 with a 1.96 goals-against average and a save percentage of .944 in three wins at Greenville last week.

Martin stopped 43 shots in a 4-3 overtime win on Thursday, made 28 saves in a 5-2 victory on Friday and had 31 saves in a 3-1 win on?Saturday. His win on Saturday was the 156th of his ECHL?career, moving him into fifth place in league history.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Martin leads the league with 34 wins this season, tied for the 13th most wins in a single-season in ECHL?history, while also leading the league with 61 games played, 3,594 minutes and 1,992 saves.

Martin has appeared in 304 career ECHL games, which is fifth in league history, with Kalamazoo, Elmira, Augusta, Trenton and Columbus posting an overall record of 156-110-28 with 12 shutouts, a 2.97 goals-against average and a save percentage of .910.

He has also seen action in 22 career games in the American?Hockey League with Cleveland, Norfolk,?Syracuse and Bridgeport.

Runners Up: Ken Appleby , Adirondack (2-0-0, 0.75 GAA, .969 save pct.) and Mark Owuya , Utah (2-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .967 save pct.).
