Toledo's Rankin Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Evan Rankin of the Toledo Walleye is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 28-April 3.

Rankin scored six goals and was a +4 in three games last week, helping the Walleye to a 3-0-0 record.

The 30-year-old scored a goal and was a +3 in a 5-4 win against Manchester on?Friday before scoring five goals in a 7-3 victory at Cincinnati on Saturday. It was the second time in his ECHL career that Rankin scored five goals in a game after also doing so on Feb. 18, 2010 at Charlotte. It was just the 31st time in ECHL history that a player has scored at least five goals in a game.

A?native of Portage, Mich., Rankin has 29 points (18g-11a) in 28 games with the Walleye this season while adding seven points (1g-6a) in 30 American Hockey League games with Lehigh Valley, St. John's and Utica.

Rankin has tallied 159 points (83g-76a) in 171 career games with Toledo and he has posted 115 points (56g-59a) in 221 career AHL games with Manitoba, Grand Rapids, Rochester, Syracuse, Lehigh Valley, St. John's and Utica.

On behalf of Evan Rankin , a case of pucks will be donated to a Toledo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey , the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
