Walleye Survive Mallard Comeback Bid

Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - The Toledo Walleye (44-15-5) ripped off three second period goals- including what proved to be the game winner from Kyle Bonis with just 21 seconds left in the second- before surviving the host Quad City Mallards' (20-39-4) third period comeback bid to claim a 3-2 victory Friday night.

Tyler Barnes scored the opener from the left wing circle at 2:32 of the second. Shane Berschbach's wraparound doubled the Walleye lead at 7:10. Bonis extended the Toledo advantage to 3-0 from close range while toppling to the ice in the final minute of the middle frame.

Jamie Tardif pounced on a loose puck in the goalmouth to trigger the Mallard revival and cut the Toledo lead to 3-1 at 5:54 of the third. The Mallards were on the power play when Quentin Shore's one timer narrowed the gap to one at 12:58. The Mallards then pressured for an equalizer but could not produce a third goal even after pulling goaltender C.J. Motte (42 saves) for an extra attacker in the latter stages.

The Mallards return to action on the road Sunday against the Kansas City Mavericks. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday night, April 4 at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during that game

Tickets for the April 4 game- and all remaining Mallards regular season home games- are also now on sale at the TaxSlayer Center box office, Ticketmaster toll free charge-by-phone (1-800-745-3000) and ticketmaster.com. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
