Kalamazoo Wings News Release

TOLEDO - A night after the Kalamazoo Wings opened up their offensive arsenal against the Toledo Walleye, the Walleye returned the favor by defeating the K-Wings 7-4 at the Huntington Center.

Picking up where they left off a night ago, Matt Caria (18th) gave the K-Wings the lead scoring on a rebound just 49 seconds into the game. Michael Neal earned a secondary assist on the tally to extend his point streak to six games.

Responding minutes later, Shane Sims redirected a Tyler Barnes attempt for this seventh goal of the season to even the game at 1-1.

Taking the lead midway in the period, Josh Holmstrom (11th) scored on the power-play to put the Walleye ahead 2-1.

Opening up the offense, the Walleye exploded for four goals in the second period. Holmstrom (12th) started the scoring with his second power-play marker 2:26 into the period.

The league's top power-play unit struck again a few minutes later with a wrap-around marker from Kyle Bonis (3rd). Following the goal, Kalamazoo brought in Garrett Bartus to replace Joel Martin, who allowed four goals on 15 shots.

The goaltender change didn't slow up Toledo, who finished the period by adding a pair of goals from A.J. Jenks to increase their lead to five goals.

Not letting up in the third period, Shane Berschbach (12th) tacked on the Walleye's seventh goal 1:41 into the final period.

Putting a stop to Toledo's seven unanswered goals, Lane Scheidl (10th) glided into the slot and beat Neil Conway with a wrister.

Fighting back, Gergo Nagy racked up his third assist of the night by finding Dane Fox (21st) for a breakaway tally midway in the period.

Cutting the deficit to three, Ludwig Blomstrand (19th) beat Conway with a slap shot from the left circle.

Making his K-Wings debut, Bartus received the loss allowing three goals and making 16 saves.

Kalamazoo will continue a four-game road trip with the second-leg of the swing tomorrow, Sunday, March 1st with a 5:15 p.m. encounter at the Huntington Center against Toledo.

The K-Wings will return home next Saturday, March 7th, with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets during Autism Awareness Night and Special Olympic Polar Plunge Night presented by Sam's Club and supported by Consumers Credit Union.
