Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO (February 28, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks were topped 4-2 on Saturday night at Independence Events Center by the visiting Quad City Mallards, who came from behind to capture their second victory of the weekend over the Mavericks.

The Mavs opened the scoreboard early and in an unexpected way, notching two back-to-back short-handed goals before five minutes had ticked off the clock. Missouri was dealt consecutive minor penalties that had the home team short-handed for four minutes, but took advantage of breakaway opportunities that led to a goal first from Jack Downing (assisted by Sebastien Thinel and Matt Stephenson) and then a second tally from Lindsay Sparks at 4:30, unassisted.

The Mallards made their move in the second period, scoring twice to tie the game up 2-2. Justin Fox, assisted by Mario Lamoureux and Mike Monfredo, put Quad City on the board at 1:10 of the second on the power play, and Logan Nelson tallied the equalizer in the final minutes of the frame with a lone assist from Todd Fiddler.

Missouri put consistent pressure on the Mallards through the start of the third period, testing net minder Parker Milner at every opportunity, but Quad City's Anthony Collins was the one to sneak a puck to the back of the net at 7:05 of the third for a 3-2 Mallards lead with the help of Lamoureux and Fox. Nelson expanded the Quad City advantage 4-2 with his second goal of the night at 10:35 of the frame, unassisted.

The Mavericks play their next game on the road Sunday, Mar. 1 in Moline, IL against the Quad City Mallards at 4:05p.m. (CST) before returning home for a three-game home stand at Independence Events Center beginning on Tuesday, Mar. 3 at 7:05p.m. (CST).

Fans can purchase two-for-one tickets for Tuesday's Price Chopper "Two for Tuesday" game online at TicketMaster.com using promo code "CHOPPER" or in-person at the Silverstein Eye Centers Box Office at Independence Events Center by presenting their Price Chopper "Chopper Shopper" card.
