Alaska Aces News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - Curt Gogol's 12th goal in 18 games shattered a 1-1 tie with 1:25 left in regulation and elevated the Alaska Aces to a stunning 3-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles before 5,289 fans at Budweiser Events Center on Friday.

The Aces, moving within three points of a playoff spot and fourth place in the Pacific Division (Utah was idle on Friday), snapped Colorado's 8-0-2 streak at home and improved to 2-0-0 on a five-game road trip. They scored all three goals in the third period, entering it tied, 0-0 and Troy Redmann stopped 27 shots.

Counterpart Clarke Saunders took the loss on 32 saves.

Colorado earned the shots edge, 10-9 in the first period and the Aces appeared to take a 1-0 lead on a Tyler Currier rebound in the second period, but the goal was disallowed on Currier's poke at the puck, loose beside Saunders' right pad.

Redmann started the third period with a remarkable kick save on Kyle Kraemer, wide open at the net and the Aces followed for the game's first goal. Brad Cole busted the scoreless tie on his seventh goal of the season, firing a rebound through traffic at the left circle at 3:10.

Kraemer responded at 6:38 to tie the game, 1-1 on a rebound at the crease for his eighth goal of the season. Trent Daavettila entered the Aces zone with puck control and placed a low shot on net that Redmann kicked out into the slot, and onto Kraemer's tape.

The Aces, killing all four Colorado power plays in the game, avoided trouble on Currier's holding infraction at 11:47 and followed up with the dramatic goal and 2-1 lead with less than two minutes left in regulation. Colorado was caught deep in the Aces zone, resulting in a three-on-one break. Chris Francis fed Tim Coffman at the right circle, who whipped a pass to the front that Gogol deflected past Saunders' stick with 1:25 to play.

Colorado was able to lift Saunders for a sixth attacker but the Aces quickly cleared the puck with less than 30 seconds left. Ryan Walters pushed a feed up ice to Justin Breton, who buried the empty netter with 23 seconds left in regulation.
