Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (35-19-0-3) controlled every facet of the game against the Alaska Aces (26-23-3-2), cruising to a 6-2 victory Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.
The Eagles claimed the first goal of the contest just 5:03 into the game when Eagles forward Nathan Moon fed linemate Chris Knowlton who flew through the neutral zone before cutting across the slot and beating Aces netminder Niklas Lundstrom for the early 1-0 lead.
Eagles captain Trent Daavettila would continue the Eagles scoring 5:49 into the second, sniping a bullet past Lundstrom to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage on the power play. Colorado wasn't done in the second as forward Jordan Kwas came driving through the center of the ice, beating Lundstrom through his five-hole to put the Eagles ahead, 3-0, with 5:31 remaining in the second. Alaska would respond with 2:31 remaining in the second frame as forward Justin Breton shoved home a rebound past Eagles goalie Clarke Saunders, narrowing the Eagles advantage to 3-1.
The Eagles found themselves on the power play 3:19 into the third period as Moon roofed home a rebound, putting Colorado in a commanding 4-1 lead. With just under 13 minutes remaining in the contest, Alaska answered with a breakaway goal from Erik Higby after an outlet pass from linemate Ryan Tesink, pulling the Aces to within two, 4-2. Daavettila came streaking down the left wing with 7:46 left in the game, blasting a slapshot over Lundstrom's left shoulder, resulting in a 5-2 Eagles lead. Kraemer sealed the victory for Colorado from center ice as he sent home his second goal in two nights.
Clarke Saunders exited the game after being run into with 9:36 remaining, but still claimed his 20th win of the season as Aaron Crandall made his Eagles debut stopping all four shots he faced. With the win, the Eagles gain a valuable two points in the Pacific division.
