Vipers Finalize Training Camp Roster with Eight Draftees

MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers selected guard/forward Robert Vaden (6-5, 215, UAB), forward Marquis Gilstrap (6-7, 215, Iowa State), forward Mouhamed Faye (6-9, 215, SMU), guard Richard Roby (6-6, 210, Colorado), guard Clevin Hannah (5-11, 160, Wichita State), guard Isaiah Swann (6-2, 195, Florida State), forward Antoine Tisby (6-9, 236, South Carolina), and guard/forward David Potter (6-5, 210, Clemson) in the 2010 NBA Development League Draft on Monday.

A 25-year old from Indianapolis, Indiana, Vaden was named First Team All-Conference USA as a junior and was named the league's Newcomer of the Year. He was named Second Team All Conference USA as a senior and became the fastest player in UAB history to reach the 1,000-point mark, reaching the feat in his 50th game. As a senior, Vaden led the Blazers and ranked fifth in Conference USA in scoring (17.6 ppg). He scored in double figures in 32 of 34 games, with 15 20-point scoring efforts. As a junior, Vaden ranked third in Conference USA in scoring (21.1 ppg). He also ranked second in the league in free throw percentage (.863). Faden Led NCAA Division I in three-point field goals made per game and set a Conference USA mark for total three-point field goals made (142). He set a school single season record for points (695) and earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore. Vaden spent the first two seasons of college career at Indiana before transferring to Alabama-Birmingham.

A 23-year old from Covington, Georgia, Gilstrap produced an outstanding season in his only year with the Cyclones, after transferring from Gulf Coast Community College: earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors, getting named to the Kansas City Star's All-Newcomer team, averaging 14.9 points and 9.3 rebounds, earning Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors six times, starting all 32 games, ranking fourth in the Big 12 and 35th nationally in rebounding (9.3 rpg), and leading the Big 12 in rebounding (conference games only) at 10.3 rpg. He was the only Big 12 player to average a double-double in league action (15.3 points/10.3 rebounds), becoming just the second Cyclone to achieve the feat since the league formed in 1996-97. Gilstrap was second on the team and fifth in the Big 12 in double-doubles with 11, producing the 20th-best single-season double-double total in school history. His 298 boards was the 14th-best single-season total in ISU history. He recorded a double-double in his first four Big 12 games, becoming just the second player in Big 12 history (Kevin Durant, Texas) to record double-doubles in their first four games vs. league competition. Gilstrap ended the year with 43 3-pointers, making a trey in 18 of his last 19 games. He scored in double figures in 28 of 32 games and recorded four 20-point games.

A 25-year old out of Dakar, Senegal, Faye played for the Dallas Mavericks' 2010 NBA Summer League team, averaging 5.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 20.8 minutes over four games. Faye Averaged 7.6 points per game over a four-year college career at Georgia Tech (2006-08) and Southern Methodist (2008-10). He started 36-of-51 games in two seasons at SMU, logging 10.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg and shooting .415 (182-439) from the floor. Faye spent his first two collegiate seasons at Georgia Tech, appearing in 35 games, scoring 3.5 points in 11.9 minutes per game. Faye has played internationally for the Senegal National Team, averaging 17.3 points per game, which ranked seventh among tournament leaders, in Senegal's seventh-place finish in the 2009 FIBA African Championship. He averaged 12.0 points per game for Senegal in the 2007 FIBA African Championship.

Roby, the half-brother of Denver Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin, was a prolific scorer during his college career at Colorado. He earned All-Big 12 honors and is the Buffaloes' all-time leading scorer. He spent the first two years of his pro-career in Israel, averaging 7.7 points last year. More recently Roby played for the Nuggets in the Las Vegas Summer League.

A 22-year old out of Rochester, New York, Hannah averaged 12.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game as a senior (2009-10 season). He led the team in scoring as a junior at 11.2 points per game to go with 2.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 steals. He shot 41.4% from behind the arc in his two seasons. Hannah came to Wichita State from Chipola Community College in Florida, where he led the team to the best record in school history (35-2) during the 2007-08 season.

A 25-year old out of Germantown, Maryland, Swann was one of the most athletic players and top long-range shooters in Florida State history. He finished his career ranked among the all-time school leaders in six different categories. He is among the all-time Seminole leaders with his name written prominently in the Florida State record book and ranked among the all-time top 25 in 3-point field goals made (172, fifth), 3-point field goals attempted (456, fifth), 3-point field goal shooting percentage (.377, eighth), assists (328, 11th), steals (139, tied for 11th) and free throw shooting percentage (.761, tied for 25th). He is ranked 35th in school history in scoring with 1,035 career points. Swann made an NIT and near-school-record nine 3-point field goals against Mississippi State in the quarterfinal round of the 2007 MasterCard NIT. His performance from beyond the arc allowed him to score a career-high 31 points. Swann averaged a career-high 10.3 points per game as a junior. He had one of college basketball's highlight dunks of the 2005-06 season in the second round of the NIT against South Carolina by earning a steal in front of the South Carolina bench, sprinting down court past the Seminole coaching staff and players and rising up over the Gamecock defenders as he took off from outside the paint for an emphatic, rim rocking, athletic dunk that brought the crowd to its delighted feet in the Donald L. Tucker Center. It was the No. 1 Play of the Day on ESPN's SportsCenter that night and for the entire day after the game. He benefited during his first season by a switch from the point guard position to the shooting guard position. The switch was made during Florida State's game at Massachusetts (Feb. 15, 2005) and was a positive move for Swann and the Seminoles' offense. An athletic, left-handed point guard who is capable of putting up big numbers, Swann ranked No. 34 on the Rivals.com list of the nation's top 150 high school players entering the college ranks this season. He was also rated by Rivals as the ninth-best shooting guard in the 2004 freshman class. Swann was ranked as the fifth-best fifth-year prep player by Rivals entering his only year at Hargrave Military Academy. He was named the fifth-best player at the Nike All-Star camp during the summer of 2003. Swann played for the East Team at the U.S. Olympic Developmental Festival also during the summer of 2003. He shared the award as the Seminoles' top steals man with Todd Galloway at the Seminoles' 2006 Honors Banquet, earned the Otto Petty Award as the Seminoles' leader in assists at the 2007 Florida State basketball banquet and earned the awards as the Seminoles' top 3-point shooter and the top free throw shooter at Florida State's Honors Banquet in 2008.

A 27-year old out of Atlanta, Tisby appeared in six games in 2010 with the Otago Nuggets of the New Zealand NBL, averaging 23.5 points and 10.3 rebounds in six games. He spent parts of the 2008-09 season with the Nuggets (24.6 ppg, 10.7 rpg), the Lobos Grises Durango of the Mexico LNBP league (18 games, 15.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg), Club Atletico Olimpia in Uruguay (12.3 ppg., 6.3 rpg.) and Provincial Osorno in Chile (4 games, 21.0 ppg, 9.3 rpg). Tisby spent parts of the 2007-08 season with Deportes UDE Temuco in Chile (9 games, 28.0 ppg, 14.6 rpg) and Al Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia (27.7 ppg, 12.8 rpg). He averaged 6.1 points in 62 games over two collegiate seasons at South Carolina (2004-06).

A 23-year old out of Bradenton, Florida, Potter played four years at Clemson, appearing in 134 games and averaging 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds for his career. He had his best season as a senior (2009-10), averaging 7.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

They join returning players forward Stanley Asumnu (6-5, 220, Tennessee), center Mickell Gladness (6-11, 230, Alabama A&M) and guard Terrel Harris (6-5, 190, Oklahoma State), affiliate players Jordan Eglseder (7-0, 280, Northern Iowa), guard Jerel McNeal (6-3, 200, Marquette), and forward Patrick Sullivan (6-9, 215, S.E. Louisiana), and tryout players James Cripe (6-11, 255, Dayton), guard/forward Ramon Harris (6-7, 218, Kentucky) and guard Derrick Roland (6-4, 190, Texas A&M) on the Vipers 17-man training camp roster.
