Thunderbirds Announce 2010 Draft Class

The New Mexico Thunderbirds announced today that they selected Alan Anderson, Anthony Richardson, Josh Bostic, Zach Atkinson, Kasif Watson, Dominique Coleman, Tyler Hughes and Alex Zampier in the 2010 NBA Development league draft.

Anderson was the Thunderbirds' first pick and second overall in the 2010 draft. The 6-6, 220 pound guard played college basketball at Michigan State University, where he averaged 13.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game his senior year. Those numbers earned him All Big-Ten Conference honors. He also helped lead Michigan State to the 2005 Final Four.

Richardson is a 6-8, 225 pound forward from Florida State University. He finished his career 11th on the Florida State all time blocks list. Richardson spent last season in the Dutch Basketball League.

Bostic (6-5, 230, forward), the Thunderbirds' third round pick, was the NCAA Division II player of the year in 2009. He played college basketball at Findlay College and helped lead his team to a 36-0 record during the 2008-09 season and the Division II National Championship. He played last season in Japan.

In the fourth round, the Thunderbirds selected Zach Atkinson (6-9, 220, forward) from UC Irvine. During the 2009-10 season at UC Irvine, Atkinson averaged 5.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.

Watson is a 6-3, 185 pound forward from Idaho University. In the 2009-10 season he averaged 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for Idaho. He started his collegiate career at Irvine Valley Community College before transferring to Idaho.

Dominique Coleman (6-3, 185, guard) was the Thunderbirds' sixth round pick. He split last season between Austin and Maine in the D-League. Coleman was a member of the Development League Champion Colorado 14ers during the 2008-09 season. For the 14ers, he averaged 15.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.

The Thunderbirds selected Tyler Hughes, a 6-11, 240 pound center, in the seventh round of the draft. He spent last season with Ferro Carril in the LUB, Uruguay's top professional league. With Ferro Carril, he averaged 16.8 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks while shooting 60% from the field.

With the Thunderbirds' last pick, they selected Alex Zampier, a 6-3, 205 pound guard from Yale. As a senior, he averaged 17.4 points per game and was named Second Team All-Ivy League.
