Austin Toros Select Dominique Archie in 2010 NBA D-League Draft

AUSTIN, TX November 1, 2010- The Austin Toros selected 6-7, 217 pound forward Dominique Archie with the 14th pick in the first round of the 2010 NBA D-League draft Monday night. Archie, 23, averaged 14 points and six rebounds in five games as a senior at South Carolina in 2009-10 before suffering a season-ending knee injury. As a junior, Archie averaged 11 points, six rebounds and 29.4 minutes and was named to the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Defensive Team.

"We're very excited to get him," said Toros Head Coach Brad Jones. "We considered him a top five pick. We look forward to his development and seeing him at the next level."

The Toros also selected forward Lance Thomas (6-8, 225 Duke), guard Josh Young (6-1, 172 Drake), forward Garrett Williamson (6-5, 200 St. Joseph's), forward Marcus Hubbard (6-8, 230 Angelo State), Vernon Hamilton (6-1, 195 Clemson), center Shagari Alleyne (7-3, 270 Kentucky), and guard Scooter McFagdon (6-5, 205 Tennessee).

The Toros announced earlier returning players Lewis Clinch (nine points, one rebound, 49 games), Squeaky Johnson (11 points, three rebounds, 50 games), Michael Joiner (nine points, one rebound, 18 games), and Cory Underwood (three points, one rebound, five games).

Marcus Cousin, Thomas Gardner, and Kevin Palmer head to the Toros as affiliated players after spending time in the San Antonio Spurs training camp this fall. Cousin appeared in five preseason games for the Spurs, averaging five points and four rebounds. Gardner has played in 20 career NBA games with the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks. He's also played professionally in Belgium, Russia and Puerto Rico. Entering his rookie season with the Toros, Palmer averaged 20 points and five rebounds in 32 games at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Casaan Breeden and Andres Sandoval earned an invitation to training camp after participating in the Toros' 2010 local player tryouts. Breeden played his senior year at Charleston averaging 13 points and five rebounds in 32 games, while Sandoval started the season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants and also played in the Dominican Republic.

All players will report to Austin next week for training camp beginning November 9.
