Armor Welcome Fifteen Players to Training Camp for Year Two

SPRINGFIELD, MA Nov. 1, 2010 - The Springfield Armor accumulated eight players in the 2010 NBA Development League Draft. After receiving seven additional players earlier this week, the Armor's list of training camp invitees is complete at 15.

"I'm encouraged by the group of talent we have this year", Head Coach of the Springfield Armor Dee Brown said. "I'm anxious to get these guys on the court and see what they can do in training camp. We've got a big year ahead of us and I think we are accumulating the type of talent to handle what we've got in store for ourselves."

During the eight rounds, the following players were selected:

Round 1. Vernon Goodridge: A 240 lb, 6'9" Forward from LaSalle University

Round 2. LD Williams: A 210 lb, 6'4" Guard from Wake Forest University

Round 3. Michael Washington: A 240 lb, 6'9" Forward from The University of Arkansas

Round 4. Garfield Blair: A 205 lb, 6'5" Guard/Forward from Stetson University

Round 5. Jerry Smith: At 190 lb, 6'2" Guard from The University of Louisville

Round 6. James Booyar: At 220 lb, 6'8" Forward from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis

Round 7. Garrison Johnson: At 180 lb, 6'4" Guard from Jackson State University

Round 8. Antoine Pearson: At 175 lb, 6'2" Guard from Manhattan College

The Armor's first pick of their second season was Vernon Goodrich. Vernon was in training camp with the Golden State Warriors in 2010 and played on the Armor affiliate, Philadelphia 76ers, summer league. As an Explorer in 2008-09, Goodridge averaged 6.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while ranking sixth in the Atlantic 10 and first on the team in blocked shots per game (1.63). He shot 57.9 percent overall on 84-for-145 shooting, including a 63.5 percent clip in Atlantic 10 play.

LD Williams, the Armor's second round pick, finished his career at Wake Forest as one of the top defenders in program history. Williams was the only player in Wake Forest history to earn multiple ACC All-Defensive Team awards, earning the honor in both 2009 and 2010.

Garrison Johnson, a 6-5, 190-pound senior from Smyrna GA, led the SWAC in scoring (17.3 ppg), was eighth in both free throw percentage (73.2) and three-point free throw percentage (34.8), fourth in threes made per game (2.2), and third in minutes played (33.5/gm). He posted a pair of double-double games, and had a conference-high 12 20-point games, including a season-high 30 points.

Along with the eight players accumulated through the Draft, the Armor added seven players through various channels including Returning Players, and the Local Player Tryout which occurred in late October of this year.

Those players include:

JamesOn Curry: A 195 lb, 6'3" Guard from Oklahoma State University -Returning Player

Tre Whitted: A 215lb, 6'9" Forward/Center from Marshall University - Returning Player

Jamar Brown: A 235lb, 6'10" Center from Colorado State-Pueblo - Expansion Draft ('09-'10)

Brent Benson: A 170lb, 6'1" Guard from Texas State - Local Player Tryout

Kyle Cuffee: A 243lb, 6'7" Forward from St. John's University - Local Player Tryout

Brian Leggett: A 223lb, 6'6", Forward from Baron College - Local Player Tryout

Michael Williams: A 245lb, 6'11" Center from Bryant College - Local Player Tryout

JamesOn was the Armor's first pick in franchise history and the only player from Springfield to get pulled up to the NBA in last year's season. Jamar Brown joins the Armor after playing two years ago for the disbanded Colorado 14ers. The NBA Development League allows teams to keep a players rights when he is on the "end of year roster" for up to two years. Therefore, Brown, after leaving the Colorado 14ers two years ago, was eligible to join the Springfield roster for the 2010-2011 season. Brown averaged 6.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in 49 games with the Colorado 14ers during the team's 2009 NBA D-League championship season. Tre Whitted, a local player tryout player from last year, will also be coming back to Springfield.

The Armor will play their home opener on Friday, November 26th when they host the Maine Red Claws at 7 p.m. Individual tickets for all Springfield Armor home games can be purchased at the MassMutual Center Box Office located at 1277 Main Street in Springfield.
