Springfield Armor News Release
NEWARK, Del. - Behind Adonis Thomas' 27 points and Bruce Massey's double-double, the Springfield Armor (22-28), presented by MGM Springfield, finished the 2013-14 season by completing the weekend sweep of the Delaware 87ers (12-38) with a 127-108 win Saturday night.
The Armor exploded out of the gates with a season-high 41 points in the first frame, building a 19-point edge after 12 minutes. Thomas posted 11 points in the period, while Springfield as a team hit 63 percent of its shots. The defense held Delaware to just 18 attempts from the field, but Tiny Gallon was able to register 10 points on a 4-of-4 effort from the floor.
The Sevens' offense awoke in the second, outscoring the Armor 31-27, but Springfield managed to take a 68-53 advantage into the locker room after nine players aided in the scoring effort. Delaware's Damian Saunders scored 12 in the second for a game-high 18 at the break, but 28 buckets by Springfield led to a 15-point edge.
Thomas continued his scoring spree into the second half, dropping 14 points in the third on his way to 27 on the night. Springfield continued to keep the Sevens in a double figure hole throughout the remainder of the game, salting away a 127-108 victory to finish off the season.
The win completed the weekend sweep of the Sevens and gave Springfield a perfect 4-0 mark inside the Bob Carpenter Center this season.
Seven players reached double digit scoring totals for the Armor as Massey tallied a career-high 18 to go with 10 assists. Springfield shot 50 percent (51-for-102) from the field, while the defense held Delaware to just 84 attempts.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo led the way for the Sevens with a game-high 28 points, one of two players to break the 20-point threshold as Saunders finished with 21.
Saturday's game was the season finale for Springfield. For more information on the Armor, visit www.ArmorHoops.com or call (413) 746-3263. Keep up with the Armor on Facebook and Twitter!
