Springfield Armor News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - On a night in which Fort Wayne's Ron Howard surpassed the NBA D-League's all-time scoring mark, the Springfield Armor (20-28), presented by MGM Springfield, saw another second half lead dissipate in a 114-90 loss to the Mad Ants (31-16) inside Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
The Mad Ants led for a total of 20 seconds in the first half as the Armor's sharp-shooting from beyond the arc propelled Springfield to an early lead. Adonis Thomas connected on all three of his three-point attempts for a game-high 15 points before the break, while Khalif Wyatt hit 5-of-6 shots from the field to help the visitors to a 55-49 edge at halftime.
Fort Wayne's Trey McKinney-Jones also hit five of his first six shots for 13 points heading into the locker room to keep the Mad Ants within striking distance. Both teams shot 50 percent from the field through the first two quarters, but Fort Wayne hit 80 percent of its shots from the charity stripe to counter the Armor's hot start from long distance.
The third quarter belonged to the Mad Ants as Fort Wayne put 37 points on the board in the frame including a runner at the buzzer by Ramon Harris, his first bucket of the evening, to pull ahead 86-77 entering the fourth.
Springfield scored a season-low 13 points in the final frame, while the Mad Ants kept on the gas with 28 as six players joined in the scoring effort. The Armor starters combined for just one point in the fourth, shooting 0-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the line.
Adonis Thomas led Springfield with 21 points, while six players reached double figure scoring totals. After a 6-for-12 start from beyond the arc, the Armor went 1-for-15 in the second half.
Howard scored 20 points for Fort Wayne, surpassing the league's all-time scoring mark in the process, while Matt Bouldin connected on 4-of-7 shots from three-point land for a team-best 21.
The Armor led by as many as 15 on the night, but fell behind by 24 during the second half. With the loss, Springfield set a season-long losing streak on the road at four consecutive games.
The Armor will travel to Delaware for the final two games of the regular season on April 4 and 5, both tilts scheduled to tip at 7:00 p.m. For more information on the Armor, visit www.ArmorHoops.com or call (413) 746-3263. Keep up with the Armor on Facebook and Twitter !
