
Vipers Drop Game 146-131 to Texas Legends

HIDALGO, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (29-19) fell 146-131 to the Texas Legends (22-15) tonight at State Farm Arena.
Houston Rockets assignee Troy Daniels led the Vipers with 29 points on 8-for-18 shooting from three-point range. Tony Bishop, Jr. and Darius Morris each added 18 points. Robert Covington scored 13 points. Gary Talton added 12 points and set a new team record for assists with 329 for the 2013-14 season. Jared Jordan set the previous record of 326 assists during the 2008-09 season.
P.J. Hairston led the Legends with 31 points. Ricky Ledo scored a double-double 22 points and 14 rebounds. Damion James added 21 points, followed by Mickey McConnell with 19 points. Melvin Ely tallied 18 points.
Daniels connected on a shot from behind the line to start the game 3-0 for the Vipers. Ledo responded with a layup to put the Legends on the board. Morris followed with two shots at the line to give RGV the 5-2 lead. Ely made a layup and Hairston shot a three-pointer to steal the 7-5 advantage for Texas. The Legends held the lead the remainder of the game.
At halftime, Texas was up 76-60, and at the end of the third quarter RGV trailed 112-88. The Vipers outscored the Legends 43-34 during the fourth quarter, but fell 146-131 for the sixth consecutive game.
The Vipers wrap up the 2013-14 regular-season next weekend at State Farm Arena. On Friday, April 4 the Vipers host the Idaho Stampede and on Saturday, April 5 RGV hosts the Austin Toros.
