Charge Clinch Playoff Berth in Iowa
March 29, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
For the third time in as many seasons of existence, the Canton Charge punched a ticket to the playoffs after a 108-101 win over the Iowa Energy in Des Moines on Saturday night. Canton (28-19) currently sits at the sixth seed of eight teams, while the loss snapped current third seed Iowa's (28-18) six-game winning streak.
Washington Wizards assignment Glen Rice Jr. scored 12 points with two steals to lead the Energy to a 30-28 lead after the first quarter. The Charge offense caught fire in the second, as they hit 15-of-22 shots from the field (68%) while they forced five turnovers for seven points. Canton outscored Iowa 34-25 in the second en route to a 62-55 at intermission.
The Charge maintained an advantage throughout the third by as many as 11 points thanks in part to Shane Edwards scoring 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting with five boards. With Canton leading 88-78 and 11:07 left in the game, the Energy mustered a 16-5 run to pull ahead 94-93 and their first lead since 11:02 in the second quarter.
The visitors bounced back immediately with a 10-0 run to go up 103-94 and hit 11-of-17 free-throw attempts in the quarter to hold on for the win. Canton's 28 wins this year will give them at least the second best record in team history, finishing ahead of the 27-23 mark from the inaugural 2011-12 season.
Edwards finished with a game-high 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes. Kyrylo Fesenko had his third-straight game with a double-double of 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Will Cherry scored 12 points with five rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes, while Antoine Agudio poured in 15 points with five assists in 37 minutes.
Rice finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes. Curtis Stinson netted a team-high 18 points to go with six boards and six assists in 40 minutes. Othyus Jeffers added 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists in 41 minutes.
