
Tulsa Holds off Austin

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa 66ers defeated the Austin Toros, 117-104, on Saturday night behind Mustafa Shakur's 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Five Tulsa players scored in double figures as Xavier Alexander scored a career-high 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting to go with nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Dominic McGuire posted 17 points, 13 rebounds and four assists and Isaiah Wilkerson tallied 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Mario Little added 10 points, five boards and three steals.
The 66ers controlled the paint all game, outrebounding the Toros 52-37 and scoring 64 paint points. Tulsa held Austin to 10 offensive rebounds and four second chance points.
The Tulsa offense shot 43-for-86 (50.0 percent) and distributed 23 assists. All eight 66ers that saw the floor scored at least seven points.
After outscoring the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 34-18 in the first quarter of Friday night's game, the 66ers displayed another strong start on Saturday with a 32-17 advantage in the opening quarter. The 66ers held the Toros to 34.1 percent shooting in the first half as Tulsa took a 61-43 lead into halftime.
The Toros used a 20-5 run early in the third period to pull within three points of Tulsa and would eventually take a four point lead. Tulsa closed the third with a 6-1 run to lead 80-79 with one quarter remaining.
The 66ers rebuilt a lead in the first four minutes of the final frame, outscoring Austin 15 to 5 to go ahead by 11. Tulsa held on for the remainder of the night, leading by double digits for the final six minutes of the game.
"Our team did a great job bouncing back against a very experienced Austin team," said 66ers Head Coach Darko Rajakovic. "We were able to close out this game with a great fourth quarter. It was a good and important win for us."
Austin was led by Courtney Fells with 32 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Tulsa is back in action next weekend when it hosts the Canton Charge on Friday evening in the 66ers' final home game of the season. The 66ers then travel to Sioux Falls to close out the season against the Skyforce the following night.
