
D-Fenders Send Bakersfield Home for the Offseason in Jam-Packed Performance

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders (28-17) defeated the Bakersfield Jam (21-25) 139-117 on Friday night at Dignity Health Events Center.
In the first quarter, the D-Fenders jumped out to a quick 21-8 lead through the first six minutes with a strong defensive effort. Los Angeles supported their stellar defense by connecting on 68.2 percent of their field goals in the frame and claimed an early 16-point advantage. The D-Fenders defense faded in the second period, but Los Angeles managed to get to the free-throw line 14 times, converting 12, to maintain a double-digit lead at the half. In total, the D-Fenders shot 59.5 percent from the floor and made 16 of their 20 free-throw attempts in the opening half.
Los Angeles began the third quarter in similar fashion to the first with a 16-4 run over the initial five minutes of play to further extend their advantage over the Jam. The D-Fenders would spread their lead to as many as 31 points in the third frame before claiming a 24-point edge entering the final twelve minutes. Los Angeles sealed their dominant wire-to-wire victory in the final quarter by converting six more three-point field goals en route to securing a berth in the NBA D-League Playoffs.
Off of the bench, Josiah Turner led all scorers with 25 points (10/12 FG) in 17 minutes of play. Also finishing in double-digits for the D-Fenders were, Shawne Williams (20 points, six rebounds), Brandon Costner (19 points, six rebounds), James Southerland (18 points, seven rebounds), Andre Ingram (18 points), Josh Magette (17 points, eight assists) and C.J. Williams (16 points, six reobounds).
The Jam were led by Markeith Cummings (24 points) and Jerel McNeal (16 points, six assists). Jeremy Wise (14 points, nine assists), Dennis Horner (12 points, nine rebounds), Derrick Byars (12 points), Billy Baptist (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Ike Diogu (10 points) also finished in double-digits for Bakersfield.
Overall, the D-Fenders led by as many as 31 points and never trailed in the game. In addition, tonight's victory eliminates the Jam from playoff contention and secures a playoff berth for the D-Fenders. Furthermore, Los Angeles took advantage from the free-throw line by converting 29 of their 35 attempts to help claim the win.
Los Angeles will return home to take on the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Warriors affiliate) tomorrow, March 29th, at 6:30pm, at Toyota Sports Center, in El Segundo, California.
