BAKERSFIELD - The Bakersfield Jam (21-25) fell to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (28-17) Friday night at the Dignity Health Events Center by a final score of 139-117. With this loss Bakersfield has been eliminated from the playoffs.
Down 39-23 after one quarter of play, Bakersfield improved their performance in the second quarter as they scored 38 points on 15-of-25 shooting from the field (60%) but was not enough to get past the D-Fenders' 19 point lead in the second quarter (75-61). The intensity built up for both teams in the second half of the game however the double digit lead Los Angeles planted from the beginning stretched out further to as many as 31 in the third (110-86). Although Bakersfield rallied up late in the game and outscored Los Angeles in the final frame (31-29) the D-Fenders snapped a seven-game winning streak.
Bakersfield held the edge in rebounds (49-37), points in the paint (72-34), second chance points (18-7), and fast break points (14-12), while Los Angeles outshot the Jam (54.9%-47.9%) and shot 82.9 % from beyond the arc.
Markeith Cummings off the bench posted 24 points for the Jam and Billy Bapstist added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jerel McNeal had 16 points, four rebounds, and six assists. Derrick Byars and Dennis Horner scored 12 points each.
The D-Fenders were led by Josiah Turner who had 25 points while Shawne Williams contributed 20 points and six rebounds. Brandon Costner finished with 19 points and six rebounds.
Next up, Bakersfield will embark on a three-game road trip starting on Sunday, March 30 when they go to Santa Cruz for a match against the Warriors. Tip-off is set at 6 p.m. PDT. Fans can watch the game live on CBS Sports Network.
