Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
SALMON KINGS HEADLINES: The Salmon Kings and the Roadrunners met for the fifth time in 10 days at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Friday night. Victoria took the first four games over the last week and a half, but all four wins took at least overtime to determine a winner. The first period saw both teams play an up tempo game that put pressure on the goaltenders to make great saves. Both the Kings' Billy Thompson and Dave McKee did just that, but Victoria eventually got to McKee. Jordan Krestanovich scored his fifth of the season as he beat McKee on the glove hand side for a 1-0 Salmon Kings lead. That's how the teams would go to the dressing rooms after 20 minutes of play. The second period started with a flurry of action. First Phoenix took advantage of a Victoria turnover and scored 12 seconds into the period. A few minutes later the Roadrunners took the lead when Sean O'Connor scored on a wrap around. The Kings' Chris St. Jacques tied it at 2-2 less than a minute later when his shot found the glove side top corner. O'Connor would score his second and put Phoenix up 3-2 before the period would end. The Kings sent a flurry of shots towards Phoenix goaltender McKee, but were unable to put one past him, and the Roadrunners prevailed 3-2. Victoria went 0/5=0.0% and Phoenix was 0/2=0.0% on the power play. Victoria outshot Phoenix 46-21.
