Dayton Bombers News Release

GETTING POINTS WHERE YOU CAN: The Bombers fell 4-3 to the Trenton Devils in overtime on Saturday on the road. This was the seventh time this season that the Bombers have gone into extra frames. Center Yannick Tifu got things going for Dayton as he scored in the first period with helpers from Matt Beaudoin and Greg Labenski on the power play. In the second, Brad Bonello and Chris Eade gave the Bombers the 3-2 lead, but Trenton's Mark Pandolfo would tie the game at 3 on a power play goal later in the period. Goalie Rejean Beauchemin faced 36 shots, stopping 32 of them. The Bombers were 2/3 on the power play.

SHUT DOWN: The Bombers defeated the Wheeling Nailers 2-0 at the Nutter Center on Friday to earn their first win against the division rival. Goaltender Rejean Beauchemin earned his first shutout of the season, the third of his career, after denying all 15 Wheeling shots that came his way. With the score knotted at 0-0 into the third period, forward Bobby Chaumont slid one past Nailers netminder Martin Houle to give the Bombers their first goal of the night. Rookie Matt Beaudoin added his team leading 13th goal of the season on an empty netter in the closing minute of the contest.

TERRIFIC TIFU: Center Yannick Tifu is on a twelve game point streak dating back to November 16, currently the longest active streak in the ECHL. The span is also tied for the longest streak all season. In that time he has recorded 20 points (4G, 16A). Tifu had an eight game assist streak in that span, broken up after his two goal performance on December 1. However, he's got a long way to go to break the all-time point streak, 38 games, set by Trevor Jobe of Nashville during the 1992-93 season.

RECORD SETTER?: Yannick Tifu is on pace to break the Bombers record of 82 assists in a season, set by Tom Nemeth in 1993-94. To date, he has 27 assists in just 22 games, an average of 1.23 assists per game. If he continues at this pace, Tifu would finish the 72-game season with roughly 88 assists.

TALK ABOUT CONTROL: The Bombers outshot the Wheeling Nailers 40-15 on Friday night. This was the fewest shots the Bombers have allowed against any opponent this season. It was also only the second time Dayton has fired 40 shots this season.

'TIS THE SEASON: The Bombers and Santa Claus, aka head coach Bill McDonald, visited the Children's Medical Center of Dayton on Thursday to deliver stuffed animals to patients. Britt Dougherty, Peter Flache, Masahito Nishiwaki, Chris Eade, Bobby Chaumont and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller passed out nearly 100 toys collected from the annual Teddy Bear Toss to almost 75 children at the hospital.

MILE MARKERS: Many Bombers have reached career milestones this season. Goaltender Rejean Beauchemin backstopped his 50th career game November 21 against Wheeling. Defenseman Taylor Christie has surpassed the 150 career games played mark. Peter Flache has crossed the 200 career PIM mark. Center Yannick Tifu passed the 100 career points mark on November 7 against Augusta when he tallied three assists. Captain Greg Labenski reached the 100 career assists mark on November 10 against the Trenton Devils.

MILESTONES: Here is a list of Bombers who are the verge of career ECHL milestones:
