Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that right wing Cail MacLean and defenseman Mikko Viitanen have been recalled by the Hershey Bears. In addition, defenseman Ian Turner has been placed on the seven-day injured list.
The Royals captain receives his second recall to the Hershey Bears (AHL). In 11 games in Reading, MacLean tallied two goals and five points and a minus-1 plus/minus rating. The Nova Scotia native has suited up for 10 games with Hershey but was held scoreless with just two penalty minutes. MacLean earned his first recall on October 25 and spent three weeks with Hershey returning to Reading on November 18.
Defenseman Mikko Viitanen makes his return to the Bears after a short stint in Reading. Viitanen appeared in five games with the Royals and posted no points along with 11 penalty minutes. The Colorado Avalanche contracted defenseman began the season with Hershey appearing in 19 games and posting one assist with four penalty minutes and a minus-1 rating. Viitanen was assigned to Reading on December 2.
Defenseman Ian Turner joins centerman Graig Mischler on the seven-day injured list. Turner was checked by Atlantic City defenseman Matt Reid in Friday night's game 4-2 defeat to the Bullies. The third-year professional did not make the trip to Toledo for the Royals weekend games with the Storm.
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
Reading begins a season-high eight game road trip with back-to-back games in Toledo's Sports Arena today and tomorrow. Saturday, Reading and Toledo meet at 7:30 p.m., while the two teams face off on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. This is the first two meetings of the season between these two clubs.
