
Gators fall in Pensacola 3-1

Pensacola, FL. Playing their 4th game in 5 nights, the Louisiana IceGators fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 3-1, Saturday night in "the Hangar" in Pensacola.
Louisiana took a 1-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play as Chris Thompson scored his 6th goal of the season at 18:47. Thompson took a pass from Wes Mason in the slot, faked to the backhand and put the puck past Todd Ford for the first goal of the game.. Kyle Kettles playing in his first game for the IceGators since November 27, stopped all 14 Ice Pilot offerings in the 1st period.
The Ice Pilots took a 2-1 lead after two periods of play as Dwayne Hay and Cory Stillman scored for Pensacola. At 5:55 Hay stole the puck and on a 2 on1 and fired a slap shot from the left circle past Kettles for a shorthanded goal and a 1-1 tie. It was Hay's 11th of the season, 5th in the last two games and the 1st shorthanded goal allowed by Louisiana this season. At 12:46, Cory Stillman scored his 1st on a wraparound that bounced off Kettles and kicked off a Gator defenseman's skate into the net. Shots in the period were 6 for each team.
The only goal in the 3rd period belonged to the Pilots and Hay. Taking a pass from Aaron Phillips, Hay snapped a wrist shot from the slot into the net for an insurance goal at 5:14. Hay tallying his 12th goal of the season and 6th in two nights. The Gators could not get any closer and fall by a final score of 3-1. Final shots on goal, Louisiana 24, Pensacola 31. On the power play Louisiana and Pensacola each went 0-4. With the loss the Gators record falls to 11-9-3 (25 points) and 4th place in the South Division.
The IceGators return home to the Frozen Swamp, tomorrow, Sunday , December 19 for Armed Forces Night when they take on the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 5:05pm. This will be the first of two key dates for Project MAMA. For the entire season the Gators are encouraging fans to participate in the Project MAMA.A list of supplies needed by our local troops serving overseas is listed at www.icegators.com. The team will have drop off points at the Cajundome for every home game and the effort will culminate in two Armed Forces Nights, December 19, 2004 and March 20, 2005. On those nights children of our deployed troops will have a special day of IceGators hockey complete with a tour of the locker room and a picture with their favorite player. That picture along with supplies will be sent to loved ones overseas. Give Blood In addition to the tickets given out for Armed Services Night, United Blood Services will be at the Game on December 19 for Armed Forces Night. The Mobile Blood Unit will be at the Cajundome from 2 until the game starts. The goal is for 12 people to donate one pint of blood as the blood shortage in Lafayette has reached a critical level. All fans who donate blood will receive a long sleeved T-shirt.
