COLUMBIA, SC â Walker McDonald's goal with just 6.8 seconds left in regulation lifted the Columbia Inferno to a 4-3 win over the Pee Dee Pride Saturday night at the Carolina Coliseum. Columbia struck first just 3:08 into the contest. Nick Boucher made the initial save, but Matt Ulwelling got to the rebound on the near post and slid it past the Pride netminder for his fourth goal of the season.
The Pride tied it just past the midway point of the opening period. Jeff Szwez skated up the right wing side, and from the circle wristed a shot past Columbia goaltender Mike Minard for his second tally of the season. Pee Dee took the lead just 1:04 into the second period. Chad Spurr centered the puck in front and Szwez was able to redirect it past Minard for his second of the night. But, Columbia retook the lead, scoring a pair of goals just 19 seconds apart at the midpoint of the second period. At 8:11Chanse Fitzpatrick stole the puck off of the stick of Brian Collins and blistered a slap shot past Boucher for his ninth goal of the season. Then, at 8:30, Trevor Demmans's shot from the blue line was tipped in front by Eric Boulton who scored his third goal of the year.
Pee Dee tied the game at 3 at the 2:58 mark of the final period. With John Longo in the box for high sticking, the Pride power play went to work. Darryl Green had the puck behind the Inferno net and centered a pass for Kevin Cooper who one-timed it past Minard for his sixth tally of the season. For the second consecutive road game, the Pride did not receive any penalties against.
