Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ - Behind two Scott Bertoli goals, the Trenton Titans claimed a share of the Northern Division lead by defeating their intra-state rival Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, 4-2, in front of 4,812 fans at Sovereign Bank Arena.
Bertoli set the tone of the game, scoring his first goal early to give the Titans a critical lead. His sixth goal of the season, coming at 3:52, was assisted by B.J. Abel and Vince Williams.
The early surge continued when the Titans took advantage of a four-on-three power play opportunity in the middle of the first period, when Jerramie Domish pounded home an open-net rebound coming after a Brent Robinson shot. Both Robinson and winger Rick Kowalsky were credited with assists on the goal, and the Titans led 2-0.
In the second, it was Bertoli who struck again at the 6:02 mark, giving the Titans a three-goal lead on a Trenton's first power play opportunity of the period. Abel registered his second assist of the contest on Bertoli's seventh goal of the season - which proved to be the game-winner - and Matt Zultek tallied his ninth assist of the season.
The Boardwalk Bullies finally put a shot past Chris Houle early in the third period, when forward Jason Notermann scored his 14th goal of the season (3:54).
Just a few minutes later, Luke Curtin launched a high wrist shot past Houle (10:00), giving Atlantic City its second goal of the game. The unassisted effort was Curtin's eighth goal of the season.
However, Bryce Cockburn gave control back to the Titans with just his second goal of the season at the 14:52 mark. Kowalsky delivered his second assist of the evening, and helped ensure the Titans win with a goal sending the Boardwalk Bullies into desperation. But Atlantic City wouldn't score again.
The Titans return to action Tuesday, December 28 at 7:05 p.m. as they face the Dayton Bombers. Tune into to MoneyTalk 1350AM to hear all of the Titans hockey action. Fans can also go to www.trentontitans.com to listen or watch live.
