Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC-- The Asheville Tourists' bats came to life Wednesday on a cool evening at McCormick Field. Facing an early deficit, the Tourists swung their way to a 9-6 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs. Asheville rallied in nearly every inning and showed discipline at the plate by drawing a season-high eight walks.
The RiverDogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Yonathan Daza doubled home Randy Reyes in the bottom of the frame to make it 2-1. After Angel Aguilar hit a two-run Homer to give Charleston a 4-1 lead, the Tourists rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the third. Sean Dwyer doubled in Emerson Jimenez for the first run. The RiverDogs then balked in a run and the inning was capped by a Forrest Wall RBI single.
Charleston again took the lead with a run in the fourth. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the fourth, Drew Weeks tripled into the right field corner to give Asheville their first lead of the contest. The Tourists would never relinquish that advantage.
Asheville tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the fifth courtesy of a throwing error by Charleston's catcher Alvaro Noriega. Jimenez added a little insurance with a solo Home Run in the sixth; his first long ball of the season.
Helmis Rodriguez battled through five innings to earn his second win of the year while Blake Shouse and Josh Michalec worked the final four frames. Shouse and Michalec limited the visitors to only one, unearned run.
The Tourists totaled five extra-base hits and five stolen bases; however, they did commit a season-high five errors. Asheville will look to sweep Charleston in Thursday's series finale. The first pitch is set for 7:05pm.
