Augusta GreenJackets News Release
AUGUSTA, GA: Wednesday, April 29th the Augusta GreenJackets (9-11, 9-9) hosted the Lakewood BlueClaws (10-10, 8-10) at Lake Olmstead Stadium for game two of a three game series. Big LHP Matt Gage (1-1 ERA 3.18) started the game for the GreenJackets. The BlueClaws countered with a LHP of their own, Josh Taylor (1-1 ERA 3.68). Despite a late 9th inning rally by the GreenJackets the BlueClaws took home the victory with a score of four to two.
Both starting pitchers (Gage and Taylor) remained very dominant throughout the night. Matt Gage will walk away from tonight's ball game with a no decision on the scorecard. Gage can keep his head held high though, by just allowing two hits and striking out seven BlueClaws batters in six innings of work.
BlueClaws pitcher Josh Taylor stole the show tonight. Bouncing back from a rough start against Greensboro on April 22nd. Where Taylor allowed 10 hits and five earned runs. Tonight, Taylor was nothing short of brilliant with the baseball in his hand. Taylor pitched seven innings giving up three hits and one earned run on the night. Taylor would also end up taking home his first win of the 2015 season.
In a tied game at the top of the seventh inng RHP Connor Kaden (2-2 ERA 5.27) took over Gage's duties on the mound for the GreenJackets. Kaden who has been lights out working relief this season got into some trouble tonight during the seventh inning. With the bases loaded and one out a wild pitch allowed Carlos Tocci to score the first run of the game for the BlueClaws. A three-six fielder's choice allowed Rhys Hoskins to score the second run of the game. Unfortunally the bleeding did not stop there, with two outs right fielder Herlis Rodriguez hit a two run RBI double to right field to set the score at four to zero. Kaden was then able to retire BlueClaws second baseman Grenny Cumana on a five-three put out to end the top of the seventh inning.
The GreenJackets were able to respond quickly to the BlueClaws scores during the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, catcher Aramis Garcia hit a solo shot to left-center field for his second home run of the year. In the bottom of the ninth inning with the GreenJackets down to their last out, Jonah Arenado hit his second double of the year. Andrew Cain then came up to the plate and hit a double deep to left-center field that allowed Arenado to score thus cutting the lead the BlueClaws lead to two. Next GreenJackets batter Aramis Garcia came to the plate representing the game-tying run. Garcia lined out to right fielder Herlis Rodriguez to end the game.
Tomorrow night the GreenJackets and BlueClaws will finish up their three game series. Tomorrow night is the first Thirsty Thursday of the year presented by Twin Peaks and Country Club Bar and Saloon. During Thirsty Thursday games guests can enjoy one-dollar small beers and small sodas all night long. On top of our daily promotion tomorrow night is also John Fogerty Tribute night. Come out to Lake Olmstead and join in with the GreenJackets as we celebrate the former lead singer and lead guitarist of Creedence Clearwater Revival. There will be a table on the concourse where guests can register to win two pairs of tickets to the John Fogerty concert being held on May 12th at The Bell Auditorium. Three pairs of tickets will be given away to guests who participate and win an in-game promotion.
