Greenville Drive News Release
Kannapolis, NC - On the benefit of a pair of big innings, the Greenville Drive (12-8) came away with an 11-6 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators (8-11) on Wednesday night to even the series at one game apiece.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the second, the Drive took advantage of shaky Kannapolis defense and came up with some big hits to score five times, knocking Spencer Adams (0-2) out of the game in the process. Rafael Devers reached on an error to begin the inning, and two batters later, Javier Guerra cranked a two-run shot to right center to tie the game.
Later in the inning, another Kannapolis error scored a third Drive run, and Jordan Procyshen delivered a two-run double to make the score 6-3.
For good measure, the Drive scored four more times in the fourth against Brett Bruening after a two-run double by Derek Miller and a two-run single by Devers.
The run support gave Greenville starter Jalen Beeks (1-0) his first professional victory after working five innings and striking out four.
Procyshen's RBI single gave the Drive a 1-0 lead in the first, but an error and RBI hits by Christian Stringer and Mason Robbins gave the Intimidators three runs in the bottom half.
Chris Curley put a run on the board for Kannapolis with a solo homer leading off the third inning.
The Drive got contributions all over the lineup on Wednesday night. Francisco Tellez was the lone Greenville player with three hits, and Miller and Procyshen had two hits and three RBIs apiece. Devers and Guerra added two hits and two RBIs.
Michael Suiter led the way for Kannapolis with three hits, while Lechich, Stringer and Eddy Alvarez chipped in with two hits each.
The rubber game of the series begins at 7:05 PM in Kannapolis on Thursday night. RH Jeffry Fernandez (0-2, 2.63) starts on the hill for the Drive, and the Intimidators will send RH Yelmison Peralta (0-3, 9.69) to the mound.
