Charleston RiverDogs News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC - The Charleston RiverDogs did not have quite enough offense to keep up with the Asheville Tourists and fell 9-6 in Wednesday night's back-and-forth game at McCormick Field. The loss extends the R'Dogs losing streak to a season-high three games, and with the Greenville Drive's win the two teams are now tied for first place in the Southern Division.
Charleston (12-8) struck first with two runs in the second inning and led 4-1 after Angel Aguilar's two-run home run in the third. But the RiverDogs would only score two more times in the rest of the game while Asheville piled on their nine runs in five consecutive innings.
After Asheville (9-11) tied the game 4-4 after three, Charleston took the lead right back in the fourth on a single to left by Dustin Fowler, his 11th RBI of the season. But after that base hit, the Tourists offense provided all of the highlights. In the bottom half of the inning, Drew Weeks belted an RBI triple to right field scoring two runs and putting Asheville in the lead for good, 6-5.
Andre Del Bosque only lasted three innings in the second start of his professional career. The righty gave up four runs on five hits and got a no-decision. David Palladino took the loss after coming into the game to relieve Del Bosque. Palladino (0-1) gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Rony Bautista held Asheville scoreless in the last 2 1/3 innings to give the RiverDogs a chance to come back, but the offense failed to score in the last three frames.
Despite a few shaky innings, Asheville's starting pitcher Helmis Rodriguez (2-0) limited the damage and earned his second win of the season. Josh Michalec shut the door on the R'Dogs in the ninth inning for his fourth save.
