Lexington Legends News Release
A four-run first inning sent the Lexington Legends on their way to a 7-2 win over the Rome Braves Wednesday in front of 4, 418 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Carlos Garcia led off the bottom of the first with an infield single. He stole second base and came home on a single by Humberto Arteaga. Arteaga stole second and advanced to third after Alfredo Escalera flied out to center field. After Elier Hernandez walked, a balk by Rome starter Ricardo Sanchez allowed Arteaga to score as Hernandez moved to second. Ryan O'Hearn reached on an error by second baseman Reed Harper as Hernandez advanced to third, and both runners scored on a triple to right center field by Wander Franco, giving the Legends a 4-0 lead.
Hernandez led off the third with his second home run of the year to make the score 5-0, and the Legends added another run in the third on a single by O'Hearn, a stolen base, a throwing error by catcher Bryan De La Rosa, and a run-scoring single by Samir Duenez.
Rome cut into the lead with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth. Keith Curcio singled, stole second and scored on Jordan Edgerton's single to right field. Edgerton took second on the throw home and scored on a base hit by Tanner Krietemeier.
The Legends scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth on a walk to O'Hearn, two wild pitches and another RBI single by Duenez.
Nik Stephenson (1-2), who relieved starter Emilio Ogando with one out in the fifth, got the win. He allowed two runs on three hits in the fifth, but held the Braves scoreless for the rest of the game and retired the last 11 hitters he faced. Ogando allowed three hits and no runs in four and one-third innings.
Sanchez (0-3), who worked the first three innings, took the loss.
Each team has won one game in the series, which concludes Thursday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
